The Grandmothers’ Arms Project

The “Grandmothers Arms” project focuses on developing coordinated community supports and healing strategies to address the strengths and needs of American Indian and Alaska Native children and youth who have lost parents/caregivers due to the tragic amount of substance use overdose deaths in Native Communities. American Indian and Alaska Native children have experienced the highest rate of loss of a parent from substance use overdose.

Utilizing community-specific cultural and spiritual strengths, the project team will provide support through successful non-prescriptive Indigenous models to serve Tribal communities in identifying and coordinating existing and new community supports and programming which will foster family-centered healing and resiliency for children and youth who have lost a parent due to overdose death.
