The Indigenous Healing Shield Project

The “Indigenous Healing Shield Project” focuses on health-related risk factors contributing to a Tribal Nation’s experience with the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People crisis in their community, emphasizing the established intersection of substance misuse and addiction as primary risk factors.

Utilizing community-specific cultural and spiritual strengths, the project team will provide support through known successful non-prescriptive Indigenous models to serve the Tribal community including the use of the Community Readiness Model and the Medicine Wheel Indigenous Research Model which prioritize the Tribe’s Indigenous knowledge systems, worldviews, value systems, ways of knowing, and cultural practices, to identify solutions, prevention strategies, and supports in response to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People crisis.
